Considering the cost of moulds I was very reluctant to buy 8 & 10oz moulds due to the cost and the fact that I already had 7 & 9oz moulds.

It however got me thinking about adding weight to the boom. this would not only upgrade a 7oz to an 8oz but would also overcome the problem I beleive 80% of slide sinkers have and that is to assist with casting all the weight is at the wrong end of the sinker when you want the grapnels to dig in.

I make my booms out of a single strand of 2mm s/s spring wire so slipping a 1oz barrel sinker on was no trouble. It all looked a little odd but the other day I hauled 1 out and cast it into an area where I normally struggle to get a 9oz to hold and it gripped just fine.

I think the barrel sinker is key as it is long a allows the weight to be spread further back on the boom. This is a little like they do with boat anchors where you add a peice of chain to the anchor before the rope. The extra weight on the boom does the same as the chain on the anchor. It keeps the boom down while the angle of your line is trying to pull it up, this allows the points of the grapnels to dig in better.

Here is a pic of a 7oz with a 1oz barrel sinker added. I also do a 9oz with a 1oz barrel sinker and I think if that doesn't hold it's hometime:fbash

Hate to rain on your parade but seen and used them before.

Helps even more if you slide the sinker up the boom and krimp it vas as it keeps the boom on the ground and helps the wires to dig in.

Never liked the original versions much because they had a ball sinker on the boom. I think the barrel is a better option as the weight is spread more evenly and will be better balanced in flight......

Did you ever get to test the C+ 0.40mm that I sent down with the shirt?

I gathered they'd probably been used somewhere before.

A barrel sinker works better than a ball sinker which I've tried as well. A barrel sinker is also more aerodynamic.

I considered crimping the sinker at the end of the boom but I'm convinced that would negatively effect the casting performance. I am using the 8oz when I want a bit of extra distance on the Tor30 & /6 so casting performance is a consideration. The barrel sinkers I use are a tight fit on the wire so I can slide them anywhere I want and they'll stay. I will probably do that with the 10oz because it is only for rough water when I need extra holding power.

I did get the C+ and it looks like very good line. I however have not had the Saltist 30 out of it's cover since Bosbokstrand.

I need to also get in some decent fishing time to get behind a camera in one of those shirts.

I desperately need 0,50 Big Game but I'm ridiculously busy at work and just never get around to deciding what else I need and mailing you an order.
