cockroaches, crickets, and other weird things for bait

Has anyone caught bream on these things?

We have loads of them, so would it be a good idea to use them as bait?

Can I also maybe use those big white/gray grubs as bait. Those big thick things with the brown head and white fat body? You find them in compost heaps...

Do you HAVE to use kariba red worms to catch bream?

when i was growing up in botswana we would fish with pretty much any insects that we could find along the banks. i used to find that grasshoppers worked really well so i cant really see why crickets and roaches wont work. as for the grubs i used to see the locals in maun catch massive barbel with those big grubs you find in rotting logs.

The big fat grey grub you get sometimes. there is a smaller white one that gardeners hate, that's a snywurm that eats off a plant right under the ground where the leaves and the roots come together... not good.
