Chizzle nose plug

Hi I just bought a new plug yesterday and it came with a trebble so I removed It and attached an assist hook. Only problem is that it is slightly too long. Its dacron so pretty flexible. Do you think if a tie a granny knot in it it will compromise the strength of the dacron?

It should not weaken the Dacron that much 
I have looped some of mine through the split ring and made it shorter and it held
