Catching Cuta on lures

I have caught Cuta on trolling lures and live bait from a boat but never on lures or casting for them. Anyone can offer suggestions on what lures I can use, season's , water conditions , time of day etc

After moving to the Middle East after Durban , fishing conditions have changed somewhat. I use spinning tackle off my boat more than anything else as it's a lot more fun than aimless trawling around as there is not much structure or reefs here . There are many shoals of baitfish here and I see Cuta jumping clean out the water but after many lure changes and frantic casting around, Nothing.....

They are definitely on my bucket list on lures but not ticked off yet

Your assistance will be invaluable
Thanks

Hi bud couta aren't to fussy about lures they'll eat most things put in front of them the only trick is finding the right size lure we catch them on full size GT lures in the Musandam regularly. but my buddies who target them off Abu Dahbi prefer much smaller lures to match the baitfish they have there. the top lure for them is the smaller bibbed casting lures like the Rapala Max rap and Duo equivalents. the CID Slim minnow also works well. They fish without any wire leader as they get more hook ups that way the general rig is a Aerocast with a 5k spinner but the fish they are tackling max out at around 15 kilos. In the Musandam I like to use a 6-8k with 50lb on a medium light rod as we bump into 30 kilo fish pretty often so it pays to be prepared.

thanks for the reply.
the fishing here in Qatar looks a bit slower and less productive than Oman -- my dream fishing spot for the beast you have in your avatar.
finding the couta is here difficult as the bait schools tend to be overcrowded with Queenfish and bonito and the queenfish although fun like the CID slimbaits
I will try downsizing the lures

off the boat we use a 5 or 6k spinning reel, 20# braid and a shimano trevala jigging stick for the normal casting here and it works well. the boat is a bit small for the Aerocasts with 3 eager anglers and bait ball frenzy!!

will have to keep trying although the other day my 7 year old hooked a 6kg cuta in the tail with a 5cm iron candy spoon 1 minute out from the marina so anything is possible!!

Cheers

lol the Queenies actualy become a menace if you are trying to avoid them!

Another lure that works well for couta is the Halco roosta and they dont cost a bomb the mid size ones will work well for your setups but the queens love them as well.

Off Dubai the Queens generally come up around 9 to 10 in the morning I don't know if its the same for you guys. But if you want the Couta then you have to be out there at first light and on the bait casting to get them.
