Carp on Lure during Spawn

Hi Guys,
Carp are not completely in spawn mode as yet at my local venue but they are all huddling together in the shallows and shows signs of spawn but not full blown spawn as yet!

I managed to land one of around 4kg yesterday on paddletail and jig again whilst targeting the cats...

Question : Will carp be regularly caught on curlytails/leadheads whilst in spawn mode?
Im guessing anything is possible but maybe not that easy...

Here is a pic of the 4kg on the paddletail...hooked under the mouth - 1/2oz jig with 4/0 hook
I have also foul hooked another whilst spinning for cats and by the size of the scale it was a biggie!

That was a big fish, looks like a steenie scale! :)

Did a quick read online and the consensus is they are difficult to catch when spawning but easy to snag..post spawning females are easy to catch and hungry, eat eggs and young and so keep the population in check naturally. Apparently they will be found amongst the spawning fish so your fishing makes sense for both the hooked and snagged fish...?

Thanks Dr, I saw some interest in the paddle where they would slowly follow it and I also felt a few "tap tap" here and there on the line...almost as bass would do but that could have been simple "line bites" by reeling into them... Nonetheless I just came back from sollys with a couple of small carp leadheads so may pop around after work...

echo what dr hoff said, spawning fish u got no chance. Fish that are done spawning and eating eggs are sometimes like taking candy from a baby. HUNGRY!!!!!

Thanks guys,
Friday after work I shot through to my venue and quickly found a carp with its head down...took me a while but eventually went vas with a nice carp and the first purposefully targeted with lure.

Rod : DAM 6m Telescopic
Reel : 2500 Shimano Exage
Line : 0.30mm Double X Extreme Abrasion
Leader : 15lb Korda IQ2 Fluorocarbon
Lure : Small Leadhead

Such a solid hookup in the inner upper lip that I actually struggled to remove the hook.
I am so used to targeting the cats I neglected to take the landing net...Landing the carp with the long rod was a bit of a mission to say the least...

Not all the carp are spawning at the same time so with a good old look around one can find a few with their heads down especially now with fresh water flowing into this venue...

great stuff man, congrats!!! Carp were my nemesis for a while, once you got the first one then they come easy :p
Thanks guys, good to know Aqua...I will consider myself lucky with this one then...first carp I actively tried catching on lure! Bit difficult from the side though and I dipped quite a bit at this one before it stuck...;)
