Carp fishing at loevenstein dam

Hey all, i was really disgusted on sunday, my one friend reeled a carp in and then noticed that the fish was missing its bottom lip (or section of its mouth). i could not understand what could have caused this!!! could this be from other fishermen and poor removal of hooks etc from the fishes mouth? is there a link some where where the proper procedure/ correct way to remove hooks for those that dont know to read up on instead of just pulling the hook out and damaging the fish further. please guys lets put a stop to this! and inform others of the consequences of poor handling etc.

 

apart from that i spent several hours picking up line etc from the dam and embankment that others obviously just left there cause they were too lazy to clean up after themselves.

please please please clean up after yourself!!!! and if there is rubbish lying around pick it up and chuck it lets get our fishing spots looking good again so that we can catch fish and not catch junk just thrown in the water::cavmn:swear

I understand your frustration! Semi barbed hooks or barbless is the way to go.

There is probably only one of two reasons why the fish in question has lost its lower lip, either as you said (1) bad hook removal alternatively (2) fungus growth (or the one as a result of the other).

 

I agree that there is absolutely nothing that gets my blood boiling as much as rubbish and especially line left behind by so-called anglers.  This is the very reason why the general public is getting p****d-off at anglers.  EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION

 

If you own a firearm - you need to belong to a club (that provides training and education), before you can apply for a license and hunt. The same needs to apply to ALL anglers - until this happens, those of us that abide by the simple ethics of this sport, will be permanently compromised by a few a**holes (that only needs to visit a venue once in their lifetime!). Until we provide a workable solution, we'll never have any credibility in the eyes of the general public and hence will not be able to practice our sport in other public venues.

 

When the public complains (with reason), the simplest solution for the municipality (or farmer) is to ban all fishing - I firmly believe that it is up to us as anglers to provide a practical solution, regulating fishing (providing for numbered swims and formal education) at the respective dams.  

 

WE HAVE TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IN OUR OWN MIDST, URGENTLY AND PRO-ACTIVELY.

nicely said unfortunately i have lost the photo of the fish, but on the other hand i was recently at the dam and noticed a lady giving some kids a piece of her mind!!! she happened to walk into the line that the kids left behind and the lady forced them to pick all oh it up, as well as she handed them each a black bag and told them to fill it up with the rubbish around the dam ha ha ha ha ha ha never have i laughed soo hard in my life and at the end of the day the kids did a great job. thumbs up to that lady!!!

ET can I ask you do you insist on fellow anglers to do it , do tend to be the leser one and pick up others dirt , I do go fishing with a bag and clean my suroundings up .
Make it your own problem dont keep on looking at the next person

i tend to try were possible, but sometimes one would rather just move on to a better place instead. cause i feel that everytime i want to go and relax when fishing i dont want to clean up after others. so i would rather move to a better location and let the pigs pork over there mess, but since the previous incedent stated above i must admit that the dam is looking great and that the people staying in the area are doing a great job ensuring that it is staying that way so big thumbs up to them

I reckon that everyone should make an effort to keep the dams clean & tidy. It's also just as important to try educate the kids that frequent these dams about the safe handling of fish. I had a similar case where I caught a carp without a bottom lip at the little dam in Protea Heights, it was clearly caused by poor handling. Half the kids at the dam just ruk & pluk the poor fish. A little bit of a nudge in the right direction works wonders.
