I caught my first decent carp ever, beter still, my first carp in twenty years.
I started fishing again last year after twenty years. Been totally addicted to bass for the past year and trying my luck with artlure fishing too.
This past weekend I visited my folks near Parys. Only had my ultralight tackle with me. 5ft rod, 1000series Shimano Symetre and 6pound line.
I was fishing for yellows on earthworms(conventionally) when my reel started screaming and my line quickly disappeared into the river. By the time I picked up the rod, half of my spool was empty.
Boy, I regret every thought I ever had about "boring carp". I had the best fight of my life!!!!!! 20minutes of reeling and running. The fish was so strong, at one point I fell and landed on my knees, still have the aches and pains......
It was a 3,5kg carp, by no means a monster, but try landing that size fish on 6pount line and a 5ft rod in a river and you'll know what I meen.
This was an experience that I will never forget. I have not encountered a fish that gave me such a run and I am humbled by the catch and the specie. Much respect to you chaps whom land these monsters.
Regretfully I cannot show a pic, I was alone and wanted to get the fish back into the water asap. No time to run back to the house for the cam.
The fish was landed on "vleiswurm???", size 6 hook(half the lenght of a LION match), rigged up with a sliding weight.
I shall now fully enjoy the art of carp angling, conventional and specimen. I hope to report, learn and share with other carp anglers on the site.

River carp do give a good account of themselves. How many yellows did you pick up?
