Cape point

Heading out to Cape point yesterday in search of yellow tail was the only thought after a long week. So we passed the point and headed SW towards the dumping grounds looking for that warmer water. Once we got the 17'C mark we dropped back lines and started to troll. 1 hour in and we hooked up 2 yellow fin tunas at the same time ::S ::S ::S

The long fin tuna also came on the bite, this was at about 10h00 in the morning. We ended up with 3 yellow fin tunas at close to 20kg each and a couple of long fin...all in all a good and rewarding day out

Hi,

we also headed out in the SW direction on a rubberduck... Trolled for quite some time and only managed skippys, headed back to the point and caught some monster romans and some snoek.

Great stuff, Stapies! Now I am really envious - roman is on my catch wish list!

I dont want to hijack the thread, but if you have the right marks and also apply some knowledge of the sea to where you anker then red fish is easy to target... The give a nice fight and also tastes wonderful. A pity you dont get Yellowbelly Rockods here in CPT(or not any I know about)...

Nice fish jaki...

Shame... Frustration can kick in... I have a few ticks I normally apply if the fish dont bite. As a last resort I will at least stop in buffels and get quota snoek, hotties or red fish nearby...

don't want to bad mouth the skipper but i don't think he knew any good spots. we were on that boat from the morning 4am to 4pm. don't know if his equipment was not working but the fish finder would go berzerk but the bait comes back untouched!

You get those day's where nothing will work and it is usually with tuna or yellow tail that this is the case. As is said, when it does not work for about 2-3 hrs and you are not to deep out, go somewhere inshore and hook into some bottom feeders to make the day at least somewhat worth it.

We had a crap but a good day... Only cat food, snoek and red romans... No big tuna but the day was worth it because of the inshore fish... Tough getting a mombakkie but one has to use other techniques like mentioned above to at least end on something...

Boot is cat c... So ja ons was out of line mar net 3 myl diper as wat ons "mag" gegan het.

Ons het darm nie 'n mombak gehad nie en ons het ook 'n monster swart pylie tussen die snoek gehak... lol

that y the guide/skipper should know his thing. to spend whole day on a boat and basically only fish 2-3 spots is a waste of time. i can catch 'nothing' from the shore that's why i go on the boat to suppress that 'blank' status. :)

Angel eyes, yellowfin tuna gone now but the yellowtail are on the bite here.Got 9 on Saturday, all on the spin. Still the odd snoek around so I am guessing that they are on their way there.
