Can I use this boat in fishing competitions ?

Hi all,

I want to start taking part in the competitions like Loskop, Roodekopjes Bonanzas etc.

Only thing is my boat is quite a small one but I catch some really nice fish of her. I do have my skippers licence, even though she's only running a 3.5hp outboard.

She has no deck so as far as I know no COF is required ? Her seats are airtight and she doesn't sink even when filled with water. ( I tested her in a pool! ) Can someone please shed some light on this ?

Other than she has all the required safety equipment for COF. Capsize bottle, fire ext, rope, life jackets, anchor, bailing device and fresh water etc.

Can I use her as is ? Do I need to do more ?

Thanks,

Jaco

Jaco is dit net vir sulke kompetisies want as jy provinsiaal wil vang gaan jy per gewig in die sak en as jy meer as 100 kg vang met bemanning gaan jy sukkel daarby moet jy onthou om by die goeie vis uit te kom soos in bloemhof ry die manne ver soos tot in die vaalrivier wat moeilik gaan wees met daai motor want jy word onder dieselfde reels gekam as die manne met die groot bote

Hi Jaco,
The boat is small but we all started there. Join a club and start fishing in the leagues. You will learn plenty and quickly too. In a few years time you may be selected to fish for your province. By then you may have saved enough to get a bigger boat or you fish off your team mates boat.
Go for it,
Regards,
Charles

Thanks a lot guys !

SO I CAN USE IT !!! : )

I'll be fishing alone, or maybe with one buddy at most. And it's only for these social competitions, nothing on club or provincial scale. Even though it sounds quite tempting.

I mainly go out on my own and have had some good days, which made me thinking of entering these social bonaza type comps. They do seem like a lot of fun and I'm sure they are. So I thought I'd like to try one, but I don't want to get there and then they ask my COF or won't allow me because I don't have a boat nr.

And I've learned that sometimes those big fancy boats go right pass the nicest spots because they so fast !

So maybe if you see a little blue boat in these Bonanza's wave hello !

Thanks guys !

Jaco

If i am not mistaken, you will still need to get a number, if it's 3.0m and over.

Just make sure, it is really not as big a hassle as we all tend to think.

Lekker boat man, think it is low on fuel and easy to tow. you only need a number if your boat outboard exeeds 15hp as far as I know.

Contact SAMSA, they will tell you who your nearest safey officer is, tell them you want to get an SR number

How big is it...

im also building a small boat, 2,6m x 1,2m. just a flat deck... going to put in a small (5hp) motor or a big trolling motor.

Quiet excited. will also hope to fish a few comps.
