Hi Guy's.

Anyone who could assits with some advice?

I've got an old G2 card in a Garmin 178c. I want to upgrade, but need to save my gps co-ordinates from the unit. Apearantly software and a specific cable can be purchased (at a fortune) to save the info to pc.
Is there any other way?

Kind regards.

Will let you know if it worked.

Else, write it down and let youre fingers start doing the job.

Nope the cable they send me do not connect to the pc.

I now need a female converter to usb.

But a can put the gps on inside the house and put in some waypoints, not nessessary to stand on the boat to do that!

Hamco, Do you have the software program on your PC?   Bluecard or something called like that? The problem comes when your GPS fail and all your waypoints is stored on the card alone. Or the unit gets stolen.
Keep trying to connect your unit to pc and save your gps co-ords.
Im going to see the guys at garmin soon. Something you want me to enquire whilst Im there?

Hi, that will be nice to no how to download the numbers and to upload some new waypoints.

Currently my only backup is a little black book.

The GPS cannot write to the current card, thus I thick you need a card to send the numbers to, but then, how do you get on the pc.

The cable I bought, does not fit to any plug on my pc.

Skipfari, just manage to download the waypoints on my gps to a pc.

You just need a cable from the gps to the ps. I bought the euro a/c adaptor with a 7 pin connection to the gps and a 9pin(male) adaptor to the pc. My mother in-law's forerunner has a 9pin female to usb.

Download EasyGps (you can find about every gps on that program, even youre 172 is listed)for free and do the transfer.

Send me you're e-mail address via pm and I will send you the link.

Did not test it today, but I can not see why it would not work.

We were working on my father in-laws old laptop here in Kleinmond. I am now on his regular pc.

We send everthing form that old laptop to my pc at home in Robertson.

I am sure if you upgrade, the newer models are al pc compatable, thus sending waypoints to the new gps models will be much easier.

(sorry - corrected you're username)

Brought along the wrong usb cable.

Will try and source one during the week or else wait for next weekend.

Done it!

373 waypoints send to Garmin GPSMAP182c in less than 30 seconds!

You need a power/data cable - I have a Euro A/c d/c adoptor 7pin to GPS and 9pin to PC ( R615 form Garmin), then you need a serial port (9pin male to USB), bought a Mecer one for R 220 today.  Load the driver on the pc, connect and download.

Sure it will be compatible with your 178, skipfari!

The time consuming part was to enter the waypoints on EasyGPs, but that was much faster than putting it on the GPS itself.
