Hey Ryan

Sorry about the late reply. Been busy with work/exams... With regards to what i'm doing, well firstly i'm educating as many pepole as I can, by speaking to them and trying to explain how everything works. And secondely i'm being positive. Don't take this the wrong way, but by just being aware of the problems we face, is the first step. If everyone believed that an individual can't make a difference, then no one would. It starts with each individual angler. By simply informing them about licensing for example is a start. I've been fishing for over 6 years and have never been asked to produce a licence. i'm sure many people stopped buying theirs long ago.

I think we all have a responsibility to do our bit, even if it is just on a individual level. Not everyone has the time to do much more...

That is a very good response. The licencing system does not work - proven fact. There are enough problems for the police/conservation bodies etc to worry about let alone policing anglers - very sad. I glad that you have grasped the concept of the individual - cause it is up to no body else. Do what you can? I also have an extremely busy life but I make a small effort each time I go to detinations even if it is just removing line from trees or leaning up around the launch area. I am also trying to get involved activly in other fishing related conservation areas - but TIME is limited.

ESA have a good slogan - just pity they don't stick to it much

Educate, conservate, innovate etc:wfish

one only has to walk the beaches to see the damage discarded hooks and gut do to the local wildlife. i worked with a rehab centre for years and in kzn we saw many birds that had swallowed discarded hooks with bait on. you can only catch them when they are about to die and cant fly away, many of them didnt make it and cost thoasands to operate on and try and repair.

i was also a volunteer for ori in my gap year and was part of the education stands at fishing festivals, and research of the numbers and sizes of fish during the week, fisherman were very open to the leave only foot print idea. i found most guys were happy to follow the rules, to me it is more the holiday fisherman, or the guy that isnt part of a club and just throws a line that hasnt been introduced to correct fishing methods and such, ignorance (for want of a better word) can be very damaging.

A motto i live by is Without education there can be no conservation, and by teaching just the kids in our lives the correct concepts they in turn will teach there mates, and so on.
