hey guys though i will give back some feed back about bronkhorspruit / baja dam

i went for the day yesterday sunday 03 June 2012
fished from about 07h00 to 14h00.

i got there pretty early as i didn't take into account that the sun only rises by
06h45 so i tried to kill time to get some light to setup.

the temp was around 6-8 degrees early morning and my fingers were frozen wind picked up pretty much through the day and gusting quite a bit around midday. during the day it did warm up to about 20degrees i'd say but colder cause of the wind chill factor.

i blanked pretty bad, and got no bites tried most flavors and combinations. i am also not the best of casters so i dont think i was getting big distance, i most prob cast about 60-80m, even tried close from about 30-60m and no bites there also.

i think that the part most people will be interested to know is the grass,
there is still quite a bit of grass at the dam, but if you find those spots fished often u can cast through the channels and things should be fine.

the water levels dropped quite a bit, from the usual grass bank at the entrance the waters line is about 20-30 meters away.

seemed no one wanted to stay on sunday and fish, the few overnighters had left before by about 11am, wonder if they had bad fishing also?

ps for all those of you that are into the moon phases yesterday night was pretty close to full from what i saw, and from my experience i have blanked in the past with it being new moon.

kewl guys

Hey Thanks for the report back.
Sorry to hear that the grass is still such a big problem.
Better luck next time.

Thanks for the report,

wrt to the moon phase, tonight is full moon but having said that, the wind chill factor and drop in temp over the past few days would have affected the bite rates.

a good few guys i normally fish with also blanked over the w/e and all reported cold winds and water temp drops.

Good luck for next time. :wfish

@shimmy thanks for that reply, it makes sense that you mention that, at least i know it wasn't only me this weekend,

@timjan - would be great if they could clean that dam, i used to love fishing there, but i've stayed away for years because of the grass.

Had my monthly open competition at Roodeplaat this weekend. Friday night was quiet but Saturday through to Sunday morning the big ones were active. Some guys also blanked but a lot of Carp 3,8kg up to 7,54 were landed. An 8kg was caught 09:20 after the comp. had ended. Next competition 3 - 5 August 2012

this is simply the worst dam to fish there is far better same distance maybe a bit further around jhb,to many boats to much grass to little fish.

i would rather go fish somewhere else
