Bought one of these for my 4X4 trips, its a LED warning light that can be used at night if you get a flat or breakdown, like the safety triangle just more visable. Thought i would post it here as i definitely think it could be useful on our boats as well, especially in emergencies at night, makes a boat visable for 800m+ (i tested mine and its still visable at 2km) here's the website, http://www.powerflare.com



 It has a 220V and 12V charger, so no battery replacements...and a magnet to stick to metalic surfaces.

They've been on sale here at Brights for a few months now. R370. Available colours... Blue light brigade, aka Spietkop blue, construction, aka road works orange and midnight full moon white. They can glow in still mode, they flash with a random pattern or fixed pattern, IIRC. I've considered buying one or two... but no real need for it apart of being a novelty; to me anyway... the two tiny magnets' adhesive quality is not up to par for a moving vehicle; as far as I'm concerned. The magnets also doesn't adhere on glassfibre or stainless steel...LOL  So, no real use on a boat... unless you hold it in your hand whilst activating your flare... This a typical Glomail/Verimark product. In my personal opinion, of course.

However, as a general safety accessory whist on land at night, I'll give it 100%. But also whist at sea in distress and you have fired all your flares and smokes... then this battery operated thing is the last hope in your capsize bottle; it might be your only chance of being spotted...

I can't remember whether they float though...

I just spoke to him regarding Bliksem's issues,

1. they DO float and
2. he put one on his cars roof and drove at 180KMph and it did not budge (at a race track of coarse :spite )
3. It is strong enough to take the weight of a Fire engine.

Tests done in the USA are on Youtube if you wanna see for yourself, search LED FLARES

i have  these flares in all 3 of my cars, under my bikes seat and on my boat.
