My boat is registered for inland waters, lagoons, estuaries. I would like to take my wife and daughter for a boating holiday to fish and play. Where in this country of ours can I go? I would prefably go down to the coast, but where? please help

The lakes in the Wilderness/Sedgefield area make for safe boating

Swartvlei the better for fishing I think and you have miles and miles of water

Or you just sit near the bank and have a potjie!

If your daughter is a teenager then maybe a bit quiet for her

Thanks Thika, I will google the places, but if you have more info on these places, please post it. That is the only part south of Zambia I have not gone to. My daughter, well, she's 10, but love the company of her parents, so I'm not at all worried about her. This is a family thing, and we will do everything together.

Cheers

Rian,

There is quite a bit written on Sealine on fishing at Swartvlei... use the search function

At Rondevlei we stayed at the caravan park and at Swartvlei at Pinelake Inn, but also have rented a house in Sedgefield before...but that was in the eighties!

PM SAFish...he lives in Knysna and is sure to have the ins and outs for the whole area

Good luck!!

Rian what about Josini. That boat of yours look the right one for a big dam like Josini. Beautiful environment and nice fish.

I'm actually thinking of taking my 186 Interceptor cabin. Much bigger than this baby and can hide from the sun and rain. Jozini is a maybe, thinking in the line of say St lucia Estuary or ??? Thanks Guys.

Yip Jaket, I have stripped it down completely, redoing the transom and new spray job almost completed. Everything should be finished by the end of Aug.

Hi - If you want to experience amazing fishing spots in Estuaries then the Eastern Cape is a must...around the Port Elizabeth areas you have the Sundays River, Gamtoos river, Swartkops river and a bit further the Krom and Fish Rivers...all these rivers produce big fish like cob, diamond skates, Grunter etc etc.

Your boat must be registered to use on the rivers and you must be in possession of a skippers ticket and you must have the normal safety gear..like life jackets and a safety ring...etc.

The SA record light tackle cob was caught in the gamtoos River - 63 kg ....not a typing mistake...63 kg on 4 kg line....138.8 lbs....

In the rivers you use pencil bait, mud prawn, live bait cut bait and pilchard.

Tight lines

St. Lucia

I wont advise the St Lucia estuary for now; the mouth is still closed, and not much happening in the estuary at the moment.
Hopefully if we get some good rains, things will change.

Thanks Cliff, would love to do the Eastern Cape thing. I would assume that these rivers arent to far appart, so I could do them all in one longgggg holiday!

Dockside, St Lucia is always a problem for me, I go there each year during the April holidays, never had the guts to tow the boat down there, just to find out, the water levels is to shollow etc. The guys that are keeping the mouth closed, is killing the town! So sad. Two years ago the mouth was flashed open, it didnt take them long to bulldoze it close again.

I could'nt agree with you more rianc. We are praying for some good rains this season; hopefully it will sort things out.

BTW, I also have an interceptor 186, since 1992.  Lovely boat, only problem I have is the wheel bearings keep on 'seizing up', although it's much better now that I keep it on stands.

Let us know where you go, and good luck!

Thanks docside, thats another problem. I think the boat is to heavy for the bearings on the origional trailor. My wheels is standing skew, although the axle is 100% straight????? When towing her over long distances eg 1000km plus, I'm so stressed out that something is going to happen, that I dont enjoy the beautiful scenary we have. I'm also not sure when I'm going to do such a trip, hopefully soon.

Yes, the boat is heavy, but if you drive carefully, you will be fine.

Just check your bearings before you leave, not nice having the wheel fly off. I know, it happened to me once, fortunately there was no serious consequences. I am now very careful with my bearings.

If you are going to E Cape, it may be worthwhile stopping at Port Saint Johns, I heard the LTB guys were getting some good grunter in the river.

Hell, you guys are so lucky staying relatively close to waters you can access and get some nice edibles. Up hear in Gauteng we have lots of dams and rivers in a 150km radius, but I hate going freshwater fishing. " all the pap and dips" not nice! I try to be carefull when I tow her, just sometimes forget that the 3D4D Toyota wants to run like mad, then I have to tap back to the 110km/h mark. What motor size are you running, the v6 of mine is also a bit heavy on fuel 1liter/minute full taps (4 blade 21 pitch 5000rpm @ 64km/h gps reading, flat water/ no wind).  brrrrrrrrrrr:kaykak
