Boat Trailer Registration

I recently bought a boat trailer with the boat, but trailer does not have papers. How do I get to
register. Can someone please explain the full procedure and what will I be faced with?

It's very difficult. I really despise corruption and everything that goes with it, but in the case of trailers, you would be better off going that route. If you have another trailer that is registered, then just duplicate number plates and colour copy the licence disc (or swop them round depending on which trailer you are using).

The other possibility is to buy a registered trailer in really bad condition preferably for next to nothing and then transfer data plates.

I agree, trying to licence it will bruise your soul.

I know quite a few people that go about it this way, they have a couple trailers all running on the same licence...... it is however not legal.

Gents... I agree it's a really terrible exercise to register a trailer, but it's not impossible. If you're willing to buy a new axle and have an engineering shop do 'some' welding on the trailer, then the worst is over. What the authorities want is proof that the welding was done by professionals and a receipt for the axle. From there its a matter of going through the motion of having a chassis number put on and roadworthy.
It's terrible that as boaters we have to go through this all to have the trailers registered, but it's for the protection of the boat and the safety of other road users. Can you imagine the damage a boat can do to a car if it dislodges from a trailer at 80km/h?

That said, as much as i understand the above posts, I can never condone anyone encouraging breaking the law on a public forum. C'mon guys, you have pm's for those kinda stuff. As was pointed out many times, this forum is read by people of all ages, races and sexes, and also by law enforcement officers......
