Bloemhoff dam

Hey bru bit of a late reply. Seeing this now only.
It’s a pity how dead the forums become compared to its past.
Bloemhof it’s been fishing well
Have been there twice in the last 2 month, almost would of been 3 times, but had to divert to another venue when there were protest there. Hoping to go in this month again.
Though on one trip we did have a problem with algae that blew across the dam from the northwest side to Sandveld. Which made it unfishable we packed up and left.. It’s was literally an island of algae kilometers long. Have never seen such before at bloemhof dam. I couldn’t even row the canoe through at some parts.
My worry is that all the pollution in the Vaal system is starting to play out in one of our best fishing venues. Ie the amount of sewage and nutrients in the water combined with the heat make it a perfect ground for algae blooms.
Fish have been really aggressive at this time of the year. Carps have been putting up dog fights tooth and nail. We lost a number of carp at a point we lost one for every one we landed. Hand a number of hook pulls as well as hooks being opening up.
Some areas are snaggy with vegetation in the water as well as old lines that have been broken off. It’s that grass and bushy shrubs which grow when the waters down.
Some areas are quite tight at the moment with the water level. You have to park at the top and setup your camp and fish about 20-30 steps away where the water is.
I didnt need to fish dips or flavors. Just used plain bomb mielie pips nd floaty which worked a charm.
