On my recent trip to George I went spearing with "the cracker whacker" Rudolf, seriously the man has a gift! And I'm sure the man has some gills hidden somewhere!
So we launched through Kaaimans which was a hair raising experience to say the least because there was quite a swell running! After a few attempts we finally make it to behind the breakers and start scouting for good cracker water...
we jumped in at a spot that looked promising and started working the area.... I saw some big galjoen (I'm sure these buggers know when it's season!) and a couple of small cracker but nothing worth pulling the trigger for. The surge was hectic with a few freak waves breaking making it a interesting dive, at one spot that looked quite promising I was floating off the bottom after seeing nothing and when I turned to my right I saw about 10 grunter cruising past me. They had either not seen me or didn't think of me as a threat, either way I wasn't going to let them get away! I managed to pan my gun onto the last fish of the shoal and just as he disappeared into some white water I pulled the trigger...there was a brief moment of panic when I thought I had missed but then I saw the fish fighting and pulling some line out of my reel. When I went over to stringer my fish on Rudolf's float he'd already bagged 2 nice crackers! And he swears he saw a few fish over 13kg, coming from someone else I would normally not believe it but this is the cracker whacker!
I tried my best to get a cracker but I only saw one fish that was size but he saw me and swam off with the thud thud from his tail....
