see posts on ´bass fishing´ thread as i posted few tips there. also search for bass fishing basics in the search engine, you should find a host of posts by very keen and well versed bassin ´pros´.
i do most of my fishing in natal waters so im pretty clueless bout your waters although i´ve fished rust de winter dam with success.
natal waters are obviously far more productive than those up-country but nevertheless i think tougher conditions mean you put more effort into getting to know your quarry and when you fish big fish dams in natal you should do very well indeed.
personally i have a fenwick 7ft hmg which i use for crank baiting and my carolina rig. but i love my spinning rig!shimano clarus 7ft, well priced and great action.
my favourate baits are my chatterbait, my NORMAN´s, and Manns hardnose flukes. Berkley powerbait worms are incrediblae they definately give you a better strike rate. on my baitcastin outfit i fish fluorocarbon line and on the spinning rig i fish with fireline. Can´t have too many outfits on my deck cos i fish off a fishing ski, so usually just carry 3 rods.
my brother loves his spinnerbaits, but personally i dont fish them often enough...preferring my chatterbait. but they do work!!!my brother oftern pops up from around the corner on his ski wit a huge cheesy grin on his face and a nice bass hanging from his hand.
now i prefer hunting backwaters with weightless baits such as flukes and senkos, but often i look for offshore structure, dropoffs and ditches to get those that have moved deeper.
at home i work in a fishing shop. best thing would be to pop in and chat to someone in a fishing shop and they will run through everything with you.
