So after doing some painting in the house yesterday, i decided that there were better things to do than watching the paint dry - so went off on a quick spur-of-the-moment session at Golden Harvest Park Dam.
This small piece of water is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. It's tough to fish, but close to home and the bass are of a decent size.
After Tuesday's snow, I knew that the fishing was bound to be hard, but I needed the fresh air (paint fumes and all at home...).
Spent an hour or so working the dam wall in the wind without no luck.
I then decided to give the bassing a break and do some artlure - I'm busy getting into this facet of angling to supplement my bassing.
I tossed a small black & yellow leadhead at carp bubbles to try and entice them. Had no luck - don't think they were actively feeding.
Made my way back to the dam wall and rigged up a Zoom Jnr fluke in baitfish colour on a 2/0 worm hook. Worked it parallel to the bank and after a couple of casts I got a nice 800-grammer.
I worked my way up and down the wall, but nothing.
Re-rigged and tied on a bigger junebug fluke. I immediately got a couple of nudges and missed 2 or 3 strikes. I then cast quite close to the wall, and slowly twitched the fluke almost like you would a jerkbait. I let the fluke fall between twitches - and then my line went tight.
I struck, but thought that I had snagged on something. I gave my rod a couple of jerks and suddenly my line started to veer into the dam - so the snag was actually a fish!
The bass put up quite a fight, diving down rather than going aerial. I eventually managed to lip land a nice fat 465mm bass of 1.7kg.

Had another couple of solid takes after this, but failed to set the hook.
Got dark quite quickly, so i headed home satisfied.
