Basil manning is pretty cheap bought from there the other day.The thing is check by phone first before you order online.I ordered nucleor chickens and paid and everything and the guy told me there is no stock so now i must wait.

With gulp i think the best strategy is to go find it and see it with your eyes before you buy.

Because you never know what the stock situation online is like.

The 7" jerk shad I think there is 4 in a pack.
As they get smaller the quatity increases.

An online bass shop I used previously has a stock program running on their e-commerce, tells you what is in stock and as soon as it is sold out, it takes it of the system - so what you order, you will get immediately. They are in Jnb and I am in Durban, they delivered within 24 hrs of my last order, Impressive service with good prices.

In order to have most of my kit ready and available the moment I land in Cape Town, I recently placed an order with Basil Manning myself.  I wasn't sure whether I could get everything I wanted without visiting 10 different shops in Cape Town, so placed the order online.  However, I had much the same experience and quite a few of the items I wanted was not in stock at one of their two shops.  This included hooks, jigheads, grubs, lures (no pink Onde Onda's either!!!).  I was a bit disappointed in their site too, but they helped to find alternatives and get the order sorted by email - it took the best part of a week but I only land on the 21st.

It is not the greatest e-commerce site but you have to understand that they are actually a physical shop and source the stock sold online from their shops.  This is not really a great way to keep inventory (or keep customers happy), but that's up to them.  Obviously the recent fluctuations in the exchange rate could have some impact on imported stock levels, as companies may have chosen to wait a week or two instead of arranging their international orders at the time.  You would think shops (and importers) could do a bit better at managing their stock though.

It's not like there are a lot of options to purchase tackle online in SA, but better so for the shop owners I guess.  Tackle shops in UK are really struggling to compete with Internet shops.  The strength of tackle shops resides in their customer service and loyalty of their customer base - without it they have no future.

In the UK you just have too many to choose from but the problem is no one (or two) has everything you need so you end up buying from multiple stores, paying delivery charges from each one.  You end up spending much more than you wanted because you have to make every order worth the delivery charge!  You don't want to know how much I spent in the past week, getting ready to hit the Cape!

And this isn't even on super gear... well, maybe the stella (shhh! it's being deliver tomorrow morning) but that's it.  Oh, and then there are the 1800m spools of Whiplash Pro, but the rest is made up of lots of small stuff.  Maybe next year I'll kit myself with decent heavy beach casting gear - this year the edible gear will have to do.  Good thing I don't have a morgage to pay!
