barbel landing net options, quality, size and price

For a while now i have been searching for the ultimate cat fish landing system. Now due to barbels distinct aroma and scaleless texture this could open up a range of anglers options and techniques.

Ok so i have found the heavey duty knotted salt water landing nets the best how ever they start stinking are large and clumsy.

Specimen nets are a no go. 1 fish of 12 kg and the net is finished and it really holds a stink

Lip grips. These are great until either a barbel pulls it in with it or you loose the fish at your feet because he wont open his mouth for you.

At the moment im netless and want to make the best buy.

What do you guys use and why .?

Hi Deisel,

I have the same dilemma, also been looking for a robust net to use when the bank is very steep etc. At the moment I am using those rubberized gardening gloves. They are really strong, inexpensive and offers great grip on the fish. We do have a landing net but we will only use it if we have no other choice. Normally only to secure the fish's head to give one enough time to get down the bank to secure the fish with the gloves.

Let me know if you find such a net.. Maybe someone on the forum can develop one..?

Hi I am currently using a Sensation Carp fanatic 60 landing net. The net is big and very robust. They are also availible in a rubberized mesh design that is cool as it is water proof and the stink does not stick.

Handle could have been longer but I also use it on the boat so have managed so far.

When I land big barbel I always make sure the head goes in first and then lift vertical, grabbing the net where the handle meets the "ring". So far it has served me well and they are also well priced.

Sensation have a large number of different nets you may want to check out.

Have had the sensation ranges aliminium pipe frame bend with one good fish. Also i think a barbel net should be very deep. So once u have the net past his head and u lift he normally kicks in by himself. But some times the opening of the net just is not big enough to tip the weight scale. And the depth is to shallow and they snake back out again.... wonder if a type of sling would work better

The one I have has a fibreglass frame where the net is and has not given me any hassles. It has an aluminium handle that is quite strong(no problems yet). Net is nice and deep. Will see if I can post a pic.

Probably not going to work for huge cats(25kg plus), but is one of the better ones I have come accross.

Interesting idea with the sling. Three sides closed and swim the cat in from the side with two lifting handles in the middle somewhere, almost like a carp weigh sling, mmm food for thought.
