Barbel at Midmar dam

allNew to the forum but not to midmar. The number one barbel bait in midmar is platties although they are illegal. The next best and the league anglers favourite is crabs. If you can't catch crabs you need to buys chicken hearts and marinade them in cheese and garlic. Springer worms dipped in red floro powder. Carp fillets. Flying Ants. Chicken livers. Vienna Sausages...............
Those are in order of preference. For ground bait use normal mealie bomb and add pets mince (uncooked) 50/50. If you don't want to do this then anything with fishmeal in it....dog pellets or even better rabbit pellets mixed into you mielie bomb.
Midmar water is very clean and as such barbel generally only come shallow enough for shore angling at night (from 15:00 until about 7:00).
