Baiting Circle hook?

Hi some advice please.  I have been trying the circle hooks size 2.0 and 3.0 but I seem to be missing what ever is taking the bait?  I have always used the std 2.0 mustad J hook. With the longer shank one can tie your redbait, mussel, prawn etc nice and slim secured in place with cotton. There is also two barbs on the shank that help to keep the bait in place. On the circle the same size bait end up in a blob?

How should one bait up the circle so that it works and you get the solid hookups that it is known for?  Are there circle hooks that are more suitable for this type of baits than others?

Tks

Hi There,

I have only used circles with firmer baits like chokka strips. I normally have a chokka strip about 4 times the length of the hook and set the hook through the chokka two or three times. I pull the eye of the hook through the first hole in the chokka to prevent it from sliding out of place but also to ensure that the hook stays proud of the bait and yet still have a nice long tail to it.

the other trick that I have seen is to take half  or less of a tooth pick and stick it in the eye of the hook. This should help to prevent your bait becoming a blob.
