Hi Dude,

I have recently started (a month ago) bass fishing and posted a thread on the forum for advise on equipment I can purchase within a limited budget.

I am PROUD to announce that my R2500.00 budget is over spent by R5000.00.

What I am trying to say is that rather save and purchase good quality equipment the first time before you spending alot of money on "cheapies"...

Just my 2 cents worth!!

As you yourself have experienced, shimano is a quality product. Buy the best shimano reel you can afford, be that R400 or R4000.

I've got shimano reels that are 12 years old and still going strong.

Tighten the spool knob, sounds like you've got too much play on your spool. You may also have overfilled the spool i.o.w. you have too much line on the spool which can "spill" over the edge and get trapped there.

@ MAN, Welcome back 2 SL, the kid also has that problem, had that problem, spooled it with 10lb P-Line HALO, and problem solved, even with the spool extremely loose..... give it a shot..... I see that according to the Big man you stay in the best place in Gauteng for bass which is Pongola......::S, I suspect that he's trying to take my spot at the top of the:clow list.....

Banax Zest

I have one of those, but would advise caution before you buy one.

Its only slightly better then a toy reel and I'm not prejudiced against the Chinese.

im by no means a bass angler... but iv got a banax zest and iv put it through hell and back in salt water off the boat and ski catching tons of slinger and +-5 kilo sharks on 30 pound braid and it hasnt failed me yet!...
still performs up to scratch...

it might not be as smooth or fancy as an abu or something but its definately alright in my opinion!
