it depends where the actual comp will be held. if it is at silversands itself then there is a rock outcropping as you come onto the beach called tom se klip where the guys pick up galjoen if the water has kick. then there is a whole bay of beach to fish. almost entirely sand beach with big sand banks to wade out on to get your bait hundreds of metres out. here your ability to read water is key.
if you move away from silversands towards faans kraal, dawids kraal area it is the same set up except that there are some ledges way further down with big fields of bamboo. this is where the galjoen etc will be found. otherwise, it's a very comfortable area to fish as long as there isn't a lot of kelp in the water.
i doubt we will be allowed to fish the mooi hawens area.
bait choices would be mullet heads for spotties. chokka for geelbek and winter kob if there is colour. for edibles the standard red bait, prawn and bloodworm. prawn can be legally pumped at rooi els on your way through, but you'll have to work for them because they are small and scarce. there is always a good chance of steenbras around so worms would be my first choice.
