backing

im looking at buying a 300yard reel of fireline but want to split it and use it on two reels. i dont really want to use mono so was thinking of using a cheap braided line instead something like gator braid or spiderwire. is there a beter option?

For backing on a spinning reel with 150m topshot ( in your case fireline) you can add any braid you have as backing.

What I have done during the years of fishing with fireline or braid is always to keep the old line and use it as backing and just as in your case add new topshot.
