I bought some of their Ion Power line a while ago, and was also very impressed. I'm considering the "Luger" rod on the bottom of this ( http://www.awa-shima.com/rods/baitcasting-rods ) page

is there any specific reason why you want to buy "awa-shima" and not a well known trade name brand?

Did you get this at great prices? Is it not worth saving a bit more and buying the real deal?

Yes, I can get these at great prices, and to be honest the stuff looks to be the "Real Deal".

Made in Japan not China, Mitsubishi Carbon Tec Blanks, Three year guarantee etc.

They also supply soft plastics under the "SPI" brand name.

Have not quite made my mind up yet, might still go for Shimano or Daiwa etc.

Looking for a good baitcasting setup (7' Med/Heavy), for about R 1000.00

Oh i see.

if it's better than a sensation passion stick then you should be fine :)

I won't easily buy a daiwa baitcaster again, nothing wrong with them but let's be honest ABU takes over that role much better. As for rods i will look into Fenwick and Airrus. I really enjoy both those rods.

Your buget is a bit tight though, i would suggest saving a bit longer and buying what you really want.

Do they have bass in china / Japan??

:)

From what i hear the AWASHIMA rods are great, and so is their gaurantee. One guy slammed his tip off in the car door and they replaced it no hassles.

They don't come cheap at all.......

Apparently they do:
"
Bass fishing is big business in Japan--second only to the U.S.--but a sumo-sized battle is underway in the Land of the Rising Sun over the future of this tremendously popular sport fishery.
Japan's Ministry of the Environment is attempting to sink the country's non-native freshwater largemouth and smallmouth bass that it says are wiping out stocks of important food fish from the country's lakes." full article HERE
