Howzit guys,

I'm looking at buying a dive computer specifically for spearfishing / freediving and the Mares Nemo Apneist and Suunto D4 has so far tickled my fancy.

Do any of you own or have experience with either of these?

The Zoop looks like a nice computer at a good price but it seems as if it is scuba specific.

This is why I'm looking at the D4 which focusses a lot of it's features on breath-hold diving.

BTW thanks for that site - the D4 price is insane!

With the latest suunto price increase you would be looking at around R5500 to R6000 for the D4 in SA.

the problem with importing is you will have to pay import duties unless its classified as parts.
i have the d4 .an awesome watch and perfect for freediving.
you can download to your pc and it displays a graph for every breath/dive.i dont like the fact that the temp display is in increments of 1degc my old citizen was 0,1degc
the d6 has a compass which would have been nice to have ,but its damn expensive

Freedive Cape Town had some D4s for sale for around R4000. Not sure if they still have them though.

have a look at the Aeris F10 at:

this is a great solution too...

I have the upgrade of the Mares Apnea , the Nemo and it is unbelievable.
All the same functions as the Apnea, it just has all the scuba functions added onto it.
Fully downloadable and you can set it to free-dive mode or scuba, so brilliant for both diving sports.

Be careful when buying from Scuba store or any online stores, the import charges on watches will be 40% plus 14%VAT plus shipping, and if it brakes you have to send it back to the country you bought it in.

I can get the Nemo Excel for about R5000 and the Tusa Element for R2999 in SA from the Agents.
I am not sure if they have the Apnea in Sa but can find out if you are interested.

Cheers

The SA agents for Mares do carry the Nemo Apneist - call them on 011 794 9444 to find out if they have stock and to find your closest dealer. Or email them at info@aquadivers.co.za
