Hi guys

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who just might be planning a trip to Thailand end of August and who might be interested in joining me for 3 days fishing for Giant Mekong Cats and Siamese Carp at Bungsamran lake in Bangkok?

The dates that I am booking for are from Sunday 30 August til Tuesday 1 September. The package I am looking at includes accommodation, transfers, 3 full days guided fishing with all bait and equipment included, and 4 nights accommodation. The price for the package is about R3500 based on 2 people taking the deal.
Here is a link to the website of the company I am using:
http://www.siamfishingtours.com/bungsamlan.html

I am definitely going and would like to have someone join me as I think it would be a lot more fun going with someone as apposed to going it alone. If you are interested send me a PM and I'll forward you all the detail.

Duane,I've been to Thailand 4 or 5 times, and am so wary of their treatment of 'Farangs' and just need to offer you fair warning with regard to Thailand. Farang is their term for a foreignor, and we stand out as targets there,as westerners appearances is like Chalk and cheese as compared to locals there. If you haven't been,it's a great place,Thailand, with great weather all year round, but you are targeted by the touts there, and these guys are biggest con artists you'll find.Everyone is on a commission list and on the prowl for Dollars.Regarding package, what you need is to check what they don't offer,as they don't tell you anything except what they want to to get you there. You mentioned Transfers,so what about Air Fares and insurance, etc? You don't mention this, and package looks too good to be true.So maybe check with our local agents help and advice and ask them regarding package.Secondly, there are some real dives in that part of the world, and it's going to cost extra for accommodation if you move, and ensure you get air con,as it's a MUST.If you think SA is bad, wait until you hit Thailand. But,perhaps you have already planned your own air tickets?I'd love to return as last time I was there I did some island hopping and hit all the fishing villages with scooter hired at R20 per day.I haven't gone into the website, but have heard of plenty rip offs in this way,and I would rather control the strings from this side than let them get their grubby paws on my money. But,having said that,I may be wrong, and perhaps it works out.But be careful as these Thai Touts know all and every dirty trick in the book.Cheers!

Hi Walt

Thanks for the heads up and I will definitely take all you have said into consideration. The price I have mentioned does not include any airfares and the transfers are only from the accommodation to the lake. The company offering the package is a UK owned company and all quotes have been in GBP. As for the accommodation which is offered, it is at the companies own Luxury Condo in Bangkok. I have requested more info regard the place but it is also air conditioned.
I currently live in Taiwan so for me this is any easy trip. We are booked in at Phuket for a week then before I return I want to do some fishing, but can't find anyone to join me from this side.

Guys check out the wed site, it really looks to be a great experience!

Hey,Phuket's about my wife's and my favorite lil place on earth.Brilliant beaches,no wind and when we got there 6 months after tsunami, place was looking like there never was a catastrophe. One Just has got to get away from the touts.Try and look at Kata as well, maybe get a scooter,as those tuk tuks and Taxis are rip offs.Go onto www.lonelyplanet.com with enquiries or do some searches on angling. Also you can derive so much info from site such as alternative modes of transport, etc. While we were out that way,we read an angler who caught a monster fish, resembling a type of SA Freshwater barble, and probably is,but with a different name.Really massive fish was caught.Saw the pic.But I hear freshwater fish are few and far between,so hope uou get some luck though. But if you have time on your hands, hire a scooter, but first get your international drivers, and then hit the beaches such as Cape Columbine(Think thats the name),and other fishing villages.Get hold of a map though. Also you must witness Fantasia which has at least a 1000 elephants. Its a stage performance in an arena bigger than a rugby field, and stage is bigger than my house.I know so many spots I could show you,but timings wrong, and my bod's needed this side. Cheers!
