Anyone got more info on the Buffalo river comp this saturday?

rules regulations etc etc.....

i have been asked to attend and would love some tips from people who have participated in the past..

any info will be welcome..

i hear the area to be fished is from the old bridge up river and not the harbour section?

Hi Leslie. I remember the good old days with the comp when you could still fish it off the pier and breakwall. My uncle one the comp the one year and the next year my cuz (his son) won it the following year. Both of them won a boat with motor. Since I moved to cpt I can no longer fish that area. ha ha well i have sorta been suckered into it, so want to make the most of it..

i watched some footage on youtube of the 2009 comp and it seems like alot of rays came out that year.. owing to my earlier days when we were dropped off there at 6 in the morning and again collected that evening i have seen alot of rays come out there...

i think its weigh and release this year if im not mistaken?

My uncle won it with muscle cracker of the breakwall and his son won it with a leerie. Yes, from the past I rememberd they had marshals on boats that quickly weigh the catch before released. As far as I know if your catch does not swim away it will not count. I know also it use to be the bigest eddible was a prize and the bigest non ed. Not sure how the rules has changed though. Its good sports though as some anglers get pretty waisted with the big occasion

What a lekker comp, i think everyone walked away with a prize...

64 fish caught in total..

I was lucky to get 2nd biggest cob at 2.63kg *biggest was 4.5kg odd) so i got me some prizes..

I got 2 fish, 1 small leary on popper and 1 x cob on chokka...

there really is alot of luck involved but you can increase your chances if you know what to look for..

i have never fished this river before from a boat and really enjoyed the experience...

Well Done!! It is an experience fishing that comp but it's been many years since I last fished it. I fished it a few times when it was still on the Gonubie River, now that was interesting!!!!! I think you could have crossed the river at any point by just stepping from boat to boat and you wouldn't have got your feet wet

lol hectic, i heard a few stories of the Gonubie river comps this morning, seems like the Buffalo just allows for the capacity so is possibly the better choice, pity we couldent fish the actual harbour entrance as in the past.. now that would have yielded some awsome fish of size and perhaps a tow out to sea with a big ray!
