Angling winter Transkei Coast Achorage

Anybody have recent personal experience of angling at Anchorage during winter months (July August). . Selfcatering, security, gillies. I believe the locals are very friendly! I have lots of experience of Henties Bay and have recently heard of a good experience at Anchorage on the Transkei Coast. I know this is loaded question. Road condition is not a problem.

Close to the mouth of Mthatha. 175 km NE of East London. Mazeppa must be around there. That is why I am asking. I live in Langebaan, totally on the West coast. OK, what is Mazeppa like? Same question. Thanks for responding. Maybe this is a secret :>))

Beautiful area and friendly locals, good fishing in the rivers and R&S between them and also towards mdumbi mouth off the point..I don't know so much about Anchorage these days, there have been management issues in the last few years and it went downhill. But it is good news if they have it running lekker again.. Winter time is also a good time there if the rivers have not come down and made everything brown, good shad, garrick, cracker, reef species and in the last 2 or 3 years yellowtail have made a comeback as well, cob have been scarce apparently..Guys been getting good size katonkel and springer/skipjack/ten pounders off points on plugs with small tail amoungst them. Not sure of recent fishing there tho but early winter before the sardine run is normally good there.

Thanks Halihut
Those management issues is what I am worried about. No update on that. Given one place now, where on that coast would you go for a week. I want to walk, not travel to the fishing spots. To rely on Internet advertisements and reviews is not the way to go.

Laat weet. Dankie

Hi Eastwood

Try bulls inn at Mpame. A very cool place that is well managed. We got back this evening and this was our third trip. Fishing is good and the safety is very good.

Hi Bra
Gr8!!!!!!!
This info helps a lot.
Wanted to go out on the Lagune tomorrow but the wind is pumping. Next spring will be better. This is our best kept secret. Westcoast in Autumn and Winter.
I only now realise that you in Benoni are not 800 meters from the sea. I must make use of this luxury in Paradise. Amazing grace!!!! Many thanks & stywe lyne..
Westcoast regards

I would also say Mpame (Bra chocks is my boet) We have fished both, and both offer very good fishing although Id say Mpame is trumps. Some spots are a couple of km away at both venues, anchorage would mean leaving your vehicle out of site, and I was never comfortable to the extent that we would hire a second gillie purely as car guard. Mpame has far less locals and is very safe even at night, the gillies at both venues may turn up late, but they do know all the spots and baits etc. And then Mpame offers more comfortable accomadation. The last stretches of road can be a nightmare in both cases especially after rain.

Bulls Inn would be the place to contact at Mpame. Tell Cameron or his wife Marian (owners) that the Rodwells refered you - perhaps us Rodwells score some brownie points. Cameron also has a boat that he takes guests out to sea on.
