Anchors on Jetski

Read your concern regarding setting of your anchor. If it is any help I will try and explain how the standard practice is used.You attach a 3m length of 10mm ski rope to the front of your ski.At the other end of the ski rope you attach a "j"hook clip. This you fix where you can reach it.You drop your anchor at your desired fishing spot, let out you anchor rope until your anchor touches the bottom. Let out another 2m of rope and another length to match the height of the swell.Tie a loop knot on you anchor rope at the desired length, and attach the "j"hook clip to the loop. Let go of the anchor rope, ensuring that the other loose end is secure on your ski.The wind with turn the ski for the nose to face into the wind and hold its position. You will safely ride the swell.When finished fishing and you cannot fit another fish into your hatch, and you want to leave - Holding onto the end of the anchor rope, pull in you anchor rope until to have the loop knot. Unclip the "j"hook and pull in the anchor, and pull in the balance of your rope until you have your anchor.
Always remember that the strength of your weak-link must be such that you can break it when you pull agaist it. Tight lines.

Now, I saw a Jet Ski anchor the other day, are they really that small!!! In which case, my next question, the weaklink, on a anchor as small as the size I saw, do you use Dental Floss!!! I cannot remember the weight, but it looked like something you would use as a paperweight, or in the swimming pool for a bodyboard!!

You should be using a 2,5kg anchor(nothing heavier) . Attach a 1m chain to the bottom loop, leaving some slack in the chain, use 4lengths x 15lb nylon line as the weak link (easy to snap) and attach the link to the top loop of the anchor. Attach your anchor rope to the end of the chain.
Tight lines.

I have never used my anchor on the jetski because I couldnt figure out the retrieval story, but Parasite's solution looks like the business.
I use cable ties on my skiboat's anchor. So have tested small cable ties on dry land with the Jetski, they seem to also work well. You can start with one, and if it breaks too easily increase one at a time until the break only happens when you want it to.
Do not start with big ties unless you want to go buy another anchor, and / or test the capsizing / recovery abilibty of your Jetski.

I'm not on a jet ski, but a kayak and I use a float on my anchor line approximately 3 meters from the point where it is tied to the front of my ski. All I do when I want to get my anchor rope is to paddle to next to the float. My float also doubles as a device to roll the rope onto. Made it myself out of 40 mm PVC piping and a few fittings. It keeps the 70 meters of anchor line neat and tidy as well. When I anchor, I unroll enough line for the anchor to hit the bottom. Then I unroll at least another 30% to 50%to allow for slack as well as an angle for the anchor to grip properly. And the float is pulled under the water before me. I also have a piece of bungee between the float and my ski to take up any shock or sudden force on the anchor rope. Hope this helps.

Tks for your kind words. I also tried different attachments as a weak link on dry land and settled for what I thought was a weak enough cable tie. Fist outing I lost my anchor. I was not able to break the cable tie. Much more different when sitting on the water on my paddle ski. When fishing on the ski boat we use copper wire, and attach the anchor rope to the transem. Start the motors and slowly move forward. Again I'm fishing off a paddle ski.
