Good morning All.

It is tuna season and its looking good. I have done a number of tuna reels the last months, they keep me tied down. If you cannot reach me please just message i will respond.

Here is a 80 international i did for Andrew Davidson. Someone else had worked on it a while back. The use of the correct greases are important look at the internals, incorrect greases was used see how corrosion had done its work with the reaction between the wrong grease aluminium and stainless and salt water mixing,,,,,,,,,,,,,scary.
look at the damage and before photos then the after pictures to get a good idea. I had to treat the corrosion first then assembly could begin. I am happy to announce that she is in good health again and ready for the next big yellow, blue-fin or marlin that comes along.

Enjoy the post.

Different grease's reacting causing a Galvanic Reaction?

Automotive grease's aren't suitable for application to fishing reels as reels are subjected to water and the correct grease's utilized (or should be) will be such that they repel water.

Im sure the reel in question has been serviced with the incorrect grease hence the galvanic action caused due to a non water repelling grease, and the grease emulsifying inside the reel allowing the corrosion to take place!
