OK guys. Think you guys might know.

Who can model a current lure for me so that I can have a mould CNC'ed for me. Reason I want to do it that way is I want them to scale up and down in size to make me a bigger and smaller version.

It has a flat side on the one side so can't be to difficult but don't want to take measurements by hand because the lure might loose it's action

Is there guys that use lazers or some fancy technology to model stuff that will be able to do it without breaking the bank ?

Hey BC, im studying mechanical engineering at stellies, cant think of anything off hand, will chat to my machine design lecturers tomorow and see whats available(in the area).

BC chat to Frans from CNC routing, palmiet street stikland.

They can digitize on the bed of the cnc machine with a hand held pen, then take this in a program called rhinocerous from which they can offset (scale bigger etc) I am not sure on the 3d plane though, but the cnc can do 2 / 3 D. They could cut the mould as well.

found some answers for you, what u need is some 'reverse engineering' and some 3D rendering with a laser scanner or something similar.

here at stellies we have something called "the rapid prototyping development lab" here they have a host of various options available to you and some of the latest tech.

they they make the service available to industry too! all contact details are given on the site and details for quotes as well

had a interesting chat to my prof about this and its pretty cool stuff!

I have no idea what the costs would be but it is a good starting point.

You could try doing it yourself, with the free application from Google called Sketchup. My uncle is an architect and he uses it for some things that he does. It can do 3D rendering, lines, colour, you name it. Google really pulled one out the hat with this app.

Go to sketchup.google.com/download and use the one you need. At the very least it might give you some idea at what you want, and you can then show the people who do the final product for you more than just a rough idea.

Yes, just put me in contact with the CNC guys you're planning to use so I can talk to them about deliverable format.

Have you maybe got a pick of the lure you want to scan/model next to a ruler so I can get an idea how much work it will be...?

unfortunately not.

it's a flat sided spinning lure about 1 cm wide and max 10 cm long and prob about 1 cm deep at it's deepest.

Looks a little bit like a snake spinner.

Sounds like you're describing a spoon?

I can definitely help you, my company's normal rates may be a bit pricey so I'll do the scanning one weekend for a few packs of beer or something...?

Yip it is a spoon.

Will let you know. It 's currently with the CNC guys to give me a cost estimate and see how close he can get to modeling the spoon.
