You oke's are sharp here on the Barbel forums,I honestly thought it was going to be one of those private jokes that only I know of. Maar nee,die barbel -hunters are sharper than old Minora shaving blades. LOL .On the rare occassion that I do watch the show in question I honestly do it with the volume on mute.No offence meant to the guy,but sometimes its a bit much. lol::S

Relax Ryan ,it wasn't caught on lure, and it was only 12 kg's.Why I post the pic is because I would like to know your opinion of the "frayed" pectoral -fin.Do you think it could be from spawning,? So early in the year, water temp is only 15 degrees at noon.Is it a disease? , or was it in a fight perhaps.?

Jeez boet Nice pics - keep them comming.
YEah that looks like Spawn fins - but question - is it only one fin that has damage?
Reason I ask is I fished Arabie dam last year and I saw a barbel that was hooked and "Fighting" for it's life being latched on by another on one of it's pectoral fins - very hard to see in your photie but it looks like fairly fresh blood on that fin.
Carp start spawning at 19
Barbel in my experince require 21 - hence them usually spawning after the carp - this is my humble experince.
I am taking big time notes this year.
Carp require 17 to come on to artlue nicely........
Jeez bud it looks like you are serious about this challenge

Naa not really ,had a bit of time to kill this morning, now that you mention it Ryan on more than one occassion have I hooked a barbel and then one could clearly see it being followed around by one/other barbel. Yes the mark looks fresh to me,no blood oozing out but definately recent, unless it is something that is taking longer to heal than it should.  Imagine the size of Cat that will challenge a 12 kilo job even if it is hooked. There are definately no signs of spawning ,way too cold still,in fact there was very few signs of barbel today as well.Carp frollicking vertically ,which never bodes to well for fly,I need them in schools 2 feet  or so below surface.

The joys of the Platteland,30 minutes from home to in da drink, sometimes even faster.I took some snaps of my home-made ,mickey mouse ,shortsh%t  klopstokkie, ugliest yellowblack thing you can think of,will try to upload them under "roepstok" to give Marthin an idea.
