15" Common Reedbuck Ram

I decided on Saturday morning to go for a walkabout our farm to look for a nice Reedbuck Ram to shoot for some BILTONG.

So off I went with a mate of mine and his son.

15minutes into the hunt i came across a nice ram sunning himself in the morning sun, So immediately I went in to stalk mode and tried to move in on a good shot, I stalked for around 100m and finally got into a good shooting  distance i ranged him at 170yrds.

I took aim and squeezed the trigger of my 308 to see him drop where he stood a great upper shoulder spine shot.

He is not the biggest trophy comming in at 15" just qualifing for a Roland but the body mass was insane weighing 127kgs on the hoof and meat off the bone 65kgs, by far the heaviest Reedbuck I have ever shot....::S

Thanx Simen i shot a 16.5" ram last year but on the hoof weighed in at 94kgs here's a pic of him (excuse the nudity) LMAO

Thanx Kreefvreter.

I will be takeing one with my bow this season in July as a mate of mine is coming up and I regard him as a bow expert so he is gonna show me the ins and outs of hunting with the bow, Im not 100% confident yet but practice everyday. I have also been puting some lick blocks out and bringing in the Reedbuck just to bring the animals in closer as they are very shy here.

Nice hunting there Tony. About a month ago i went on a hunting trip with some friends on a private farm near Bethlehem. Being my first time ever, i was a bit nervous. But that soon faded after the first shot. We ended up with 2 black wildebeest, 2 blesbok, 2 springbok and 1 rooi hartebeest (taken with a 308 & 30.06). The owner also has 2 dams on his farm, one with carp & barbel, the other with bass.

Needless to say, the hunting, fishing & hospitality was excellent & we have already started planning for next year.

This is the carp/barbel dam. I forgot to mention, he also has a river on the farm with yellow fish in it. All in all, it was a GR8 week :)

Nice man lekker klomp biltong wat julle manne hier geskiet het. Stinker het julle die boer se hond ook geskiet.......lol. Wat hang in die middel aan die regterkant?? Steenbokkie???

LOL Jason. Nope, it's a rabbit. Went on a night hunt for jackal. Shot guinea fowl too. I even tackled a spring hare bare hands. I was lucky i didn't get torn open as that thing's got big claws. Anyway, let it go after. :)
