Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (18 January 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.    The meeting was attended by 13 existing members, three new members and one guest.

2.     Logistical arrangements: Competition - 22 January 2011 – Langebaan:

2.1.  Fishing area: Langebaan lagoon. It was decided that members would fish as a group, wherever the weather dictates on the day.

2.2.   Competition Secretary: Craig Myburg

2.3.   Start and end times of competition:
Start: 06:00 – 06:45
End (weigh-in): 15:00 – 15:30 (No grace after 15:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified)

2.4.   Venue for issuing Score Cards: Total Garage, Langebaan at Steers.
Return of Score Cards: Same as above.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (06:45) will have grace until 08:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (082 335 2561) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards BEFORE 08:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 08:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.5.  After party: To be confirmed.

3.     General.

3.1.  Previous competition (December 2010)- Feedback: The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated but the event was nevertheless a success.

3.2.   Sponsorships: Currently the Club has no regular sponsors. It was therefore decided that the Club will embark on a number of fund raising initiatives to bolster Club funds. Members participating in monthly competitions will with effect from January 2011 pay an entrance fee of R10,00 to compete. This will go towards the Club’s funds.

It was also decided that prizes will no longer be awarded to competition winners, apart from the floating trophy. Should sponsors, however, donate prizes it may be awarded to winners.

3.3.   New members: Three new members joined the Club. All three attended the meeting. We wish to extend a hearty welcome to Troy13 (Hannes vd Burgh), Goose ZA (Angus Pollock) and rinex (Fabian Collins). We trust that these new members will become just as nutty about our sport as the rest of the guys (and ladies) in the Club.

3.4.   Future competition dates:  The February 2011 monthly competition will coincide with the planned Cob Clinic on 12 February 2011 at Macassar. Further details will be provided in this regard on another post.

Due to the Five Species competition taking place early March in Struisbaai, it was already decided that the April competition will be held in Pearly Beach. No decision was taken yet regarding the venue for the Club’s March competition.

3.5.    Recreational Fishing Services (RFC) – membership: It was previously decided that all members would consider joining this organization. RFC addresses issues of concern of the angling fraternity, such as the recent licensing fracas and takes legal action when required to protect anglers’ interests. Mobi Dick can be contacted for more information.

3.6.    Cob Clinic: The SSEC:WC Cob Clinic will take place on Saturday, 12 February 2011 at Macassar, False Bay. Initial indications are that it will start at 14:00 and run up to about 16:00, were after all participants would be welcome to participate in an angling competition from 18:00 to 24:00 at the same venue. Entry fees will be R50,00 which will include attendance to the Clinic, a copy of the presentation and the subsequent competition. There will also be a number of prizes to be won.

SSEC:WC members are requested to send Wikus (***Galjoen***) photo’s of nice Cob catches for possible inclusion in the presentation material. Photos may be sent to any of the following two e-mail addresses:

minkievdm@telkomsa.net or VDMerW58@telkom.co.za.

3.7.   4-5 March 2011 Five Species, Struisbaai: The organizers of the event have invited SSEC:WC to enter an official Club team. All members wishing to attend are urgently asked to pm Moby Dick indicating their availability.

3.8.   Competition Rules – amendments/clarifications: During the November 2010 Club meeting a number of amendments/clarifications were made regarding the Club’s competitions. The relevant notes in this regard from the previous minutes are enclosed for ease of reference:

·    Any member that cannot meet the starting time (final cut-off time) of a competition or has a valid reason for having to leave before the final weigh-in cut-off time has to make presentations for concession by no later than the meeting immediately before the specific competition’s monthly meeting. Should such members’ bone fide excuses be accepted such members will not be disqualified or loose points during that month’s competition. This ruling was approved to ensure members still attend Club competitions, notwithstanding other valid commitments.

·   An additional competition was approved. Currently only catches that are released are taken into consideration for the Club’s internal record catches. It was decided that a separate category would be brought in with immediate effect. This is for record catches that are not released. Wikus (Score keeper) has all previous catches and will provide Kaspaas with the details for the issuing of Record Certificates in this category.

·   To boost attendance of the Club’s monthly competitions it was unanimously decided that the existing competition scoring system should be changed with immediate effect. Currently Bonus day points are added to scores of the actual competition day to identify the Monthly Competition winner. This has been changed. Bonus day points will no longer count for the monthly competition, but would only count towards the Annual Club Champion competition. Only points scored during the actual monthly competition day will be taken into consideration.

·   Should there be no winners during a specific month’s competition, no Monthly winner will be announced and no prizes awarded. Prizes that are not awarded in one month are NOT rolled over to the next month’s competition.

3.9.   The meeting adjourned at about 20:15
