A good day of learning at Strandfontein - Broken Road

We were at broken road and I never pulled out anything however there was this oldish guy that fished from the same spot that we were at. He and his friend rocked up there and he baited up with Red bait (there were plently pods laying around after the heavy seas).

This is what amazed me though, as soon as he cast in, he got a fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean literally as soon as his bait hit the water! He pulled out a lovely Galjoen that was about 2 cm over regulation size! Then he said that he is just going further down quickly to try out there. He came back with another Gallie! Then he said to us that he gave us a chance, now he is going to catch another one and again he threw in and about a minute later pulled put another Gallie bigger than the first on that he caught! I was amazed at this guy.

He gave us a couple of tips, so I tried it out. I waded in as deep as he did and cast just next to him…about 2 mins later I felt my line going mad! That is the first time I actually felt something fight like that coz Im a new starter to the world of fishing and have only caught a lesser sand shark and a striped cat shark. It was amazing!!!!

Unfortunately, due to the damn pollution in the water I got this huge packet stuck on my line. This caused my line to drop and my sinker caught onto the rock outcrop and I got snagged and couldn't get my line out as much as I tried. I cut my line and obviously lost the fish.

My first real bite and fishing has now bitten me.  The guy that caught all the Galjoen was very helpful and it was wonderful to see that he was willing to share his knowledge!

So now Im going to keep on keeping on and soon enough I'll be able to be like that guy who motivated me!

Cheers...

Thanks Nepptune! Yeah, was like a breath of fresh air to know that people are willing to share their knowledge in this day and age! The cool thing is that he had like this ancient rod and reel and the guys that were bragging with their state of the art equipment blanked! Just goes to show that it's not the equipment but the user!

Words of wisdom!!

Once the fishing gogga has bitten there is no return! Keep stealing with your eyes and ears. It's not always the case that you find such a salted sea dog willing to part with tips. I always make a point to chat to as many angelrs on the beach as possible.

Gavs once u've eaten ur own gallie that u caught urself... everything will suffer, work, relationships, religion, u'll curse all the known gods if the weather is too fowl, u'll wake up in the middle of the night with pictures of new traces to try in ur mind. 2 nights before a fishing expedition u won't be able to sleep. Ur going to spend 70% of ur income buying stuff u wont use 90% of the time....

It's a horrible sickness to have this angling thing....BUT I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
