Oval DC's

Hi there guys.

This question is more aimed at Enigma.

Firstly I just want to say the the Oval Dc's are awesome rods for freshwater.

My question though is that I have noticed the the oval part's backbone is off centre(butt), has anyone else noticed this? In other words the tip is miss aligned in relation to the reel seat?

Then the other question, If I would like to use these rods for surf fishing with a grinder, would this in anycase be possible or would I be limited to very small fish? I see it is rated to 150gr weight...

I know I can cast a P6 with a small feeding boll on it , but can it throw a spoon or even live bait?

I know I might seem a bit daft , but any info would be appreciated.

Superb,

Don't want to encroach on Enigma's turf, but the OVAL DC's make very good surf rods with grinders. As a carp rod the reel seat position on the 10'6" is a little high for surf use, but not to the extent it is no good...
Have not noticed spine being off centre, could be that the rod you have was factory built slightly out.. Can be a fixed with a new reel seat.

Recently did an experiment with Fuji's KR Concept single foot guides on the 10'6" DC, they allowed me to bring the first guide MUCH closer to the reel seat, whilst perhaps not obvious to all fishermen, is that this brings the very stiff oval butt into effect. This has benefits for casting and playing fish.

The base can't be off alignment with the tip. The only alignment that could be off is the reel seat to the oval but I can't say I have seen that but it's not impossible.

The rod is a 1-4oz rod so a 2oz with a Pinkie or a small mullet is no problem.

2-4oz plugs and I got this Garrick

There are a number in fact large number of Sealiner's using the rods in the Salt and Freshwater.

The rod is fitted with Top End Fuji Alconite guides which are made from chromed 316 grade Stainless steel (Surgical Stainless) that will not rust.

The rod is awesome as a whole and very versatile.
The way I see it is that the reel seat is off centre, funny enough , it is on both my rods like that.

Craig , I want to send my 10,6ft to you to set it up for a surf rod but with a grinder preferably. What will be done? Will the reel seat be moved?

We are going to Henties this December and would love to be able to use plugs and spoons there.

At this stage it feels like any mass produced product should come with a warning label.
My reels are with craig already, and now I will need to send my rods also. hahaha

I need to buy a blank of my own.
Have only cast the 10'6" but fell in love with it from the first throw.
I think at the price of the commercially available rods; considering the quality of components used, you would be hard pressed to find a better product.

So, I've send the rods into sensation to align the reel seat with the oval backbone.
Hopefully its gets sorted soon.
What would you recommend is the best rod to get customized for plugs and spoons and maybe small bait , the 12.6ft or the 10.6ft ?

For me the 10'6".
It's lighter and easier on the body for all-day casting.
Throws a country mile so you will reach waters that other lure specific rods won't reach..
And it will throw a sinker and bait very well.

They have the Rugged Extreme 10'6"already built for that application, comes fitted with K Series Alconites and setup for most reels that one would use for the application.

The grips and between the grips has heat shrink on to protect against rocks and bumping.

Grip is also shorter than that of the Carp version. The carp version is also component ready only that the reel seat is a bit high.

Thanks for the info Craig.
What ounce ratings does the 10.6ft come in on the rugged extreme? Then what reel would your pair with it?
