Venters & Co.,
I lost my last mad pumpkin at the end of last season that is why I put the other post out on making the silicone lures.
I am going to place an order with Ganis for some mad pumpkins as none of the local retailers stock the lures here as there are only a handful of guys here that fish artlure.
I would also be grateful for Emile or Rene Sada's contact details so that I can order lures from them as well.
I will post a pic on the weekend of my remaining silicone lures rigged assist style and will later update this string with a madpumpkin or Sada lure rigged assist style.
I have removed all my trebles from my spoons, chisel nose plugs and stickbaits that I use for yellowtail and the other saltwater gamefish that I target.
The assist hooks rigged with circles are deadly as the fish cannot throw the hook. Another benefit is that you don't run the risk of having to be attached to a set of trebles when a fish unexpectedly thrashes around in your hand.
Aggro barble like those in Bloemhof and the lower Vaal always tend to swallow your baits deep and its unnecessarily traumatic to the fish to remove the hooks or to potentially lose your lure. If you are fishing a comp and every second counts a quick release is also important.
In the interim I would suggest that you experiment with some of my ideas. You guys are able to target your fish more consistently than here due to the number of venues at your disposal as well as a favourable climate that allows for sight fishing.
Will be in touch soon but please keep this topic alive with your findings that you make from your field work.
One last note. Bernardt thanks for the great work that you are doing at Eco Care. It's important to protect an ever diminishing pool of safe, unpolluted and unpoached waters, best of luck going forward.
