swimbait help

Hi guys

I have only used a swimbait once, and got nailed proper by a BUS! After that experience I have a couple of questions (sorry if its stupid questions).

1. What do you do when you have your swimbait out in the strike zone? I guess you follow your bait as far as possible? Or is it better to stand at one spot?

2. How tight do you set your drag while you are waiting for a pick up?

Any assistance and input would be appreciated!:wfish

Hello Dewald

I am no expert on swimbaits although I tried a good few times. Of my 9 tries, I got picked up 4 times, and only landed 1 fish.

This works for me and will vary for others, when the bait is in the strike zone, they  generally swim parallel to the shore, just moving from one side to the next. I do not move with the bait, I stand in one spot. Obviously this might vary from location to location depending on the structure around you. I did all my swim bait fishing in Mazeppa Bay.  I do however keep my drag relatively tight and not locked but my clutch is down, so I am controling my spool with my thumb. When you get the pick up and the fish is moving with your bait I then engage the clutch and let the drag do the work.

I hope it helps. I could be doing something wrong, as I only have a 25% success rate. Lets hear what the others say.

Hi Anthony

It is my pleasure. Payback will have to be some nice pics of bigggggggggg fish.

Consider the awa shima, big game .60 line or the .59 alpha seagrand. Just a suggestion as I will not use anything else. Speak to Craig he will hook you up.

My apologies Dewald for hijacking the thread.

Regards,

Kevin
