Could anyone offer some advice please? My husband and I have just started flyfishing. We'd like to do some flyfishing at Krugersdrift, but we are really not sure which part of the dam to do flyfishing at. Can anyone offer some advice? Any advice on which flies work best? Thanks ..

Is that the dam where the guys target Barbel? If that is the case you should search for shallow areas where you can see fish feeding and the use any bulky fly to call them!

Hi Ash,

Welcome! I do not know the dam but it looks really interesting for yellowfish.

What are you planning on targeting?

The river looks like amazing yellowfish water, in which case the vaal methods of catching yellows should work great there. Nymphs and dries - caddis and mayfly I would start with.

Barbel should also be abundant - Poppers and halfchickens

Go and have a look around on www.flytalk.co.za, there is a few threads on barbel and people from Bloem that fish the area!

Hi there! Fly fishing is very good at Krugersdrift. Drive past the main entrence of the dam over the bridge and keep on for about1.5km's. Turn right by the first gravel road after the damwall. That side is called Soetdoring reserve. There are many flat banks on that side wich makes wading in deep easy. You can also on that side of the dam go to the end of the dam where the "Modder rivier" runs into the dam. I do most of my fishing there for big barbel and it is a very productive and nice area. Yellow fis are there. I u would like u can PM me and i can take u guys for a outing?
