Went to Blaauwpan last sunday and managed 3 barble in the space of like 2 hours all on flying ants with a dash of duiwelsdrek. Used a single hook trace and put 5 ants on at a time.

Would have caught more if I had more of the little critters now I put all the lights on around the house after it has rained hoping for another hatch! lol,

Cant wait to get back with a whole tub full!

Hope my 2c helps ya all catch more Mr whiskers..

ENJOY.

hahahhaa, Brad! dude, another awesome bait for barbel- go to that koi/pet store in Trichardts road and get meal worms and silkworms make combo out of them.... Iv also tried two mice (pinkies) at rievlei didnt get picked up though, but im gonna try some more at the vaal, should work well, they only like R2 each, way cheaper than platties!!

not really, you kill them first, better than letting them get slowly digested by snakes and spiders.. there's no difference between that and using carp heads/platties/ birds........

Yes, the ants were live but once you put them on the hook they died. Caught the flying ants the night before. The barble were strangely all round about the same size 3 - 4kg.

Was busy fishin till the ants ran out :(

No problem.

From the main entrance. Follow the road right round the dam.

If u drive right around over the weir all the way to the reeds at the end. I wasnt casting too far either (about 80m) and straight out.

Did u manage to get some flying ants? And if u try this method dont forget to add a hint of duiwelsdrek to the hook bait presented. Even add a little to the ball.. I am sure a carp wont turn up his nose with this bait too!

Ek hou van reismiere as aas, hulle is net baie skaars deesdae, gewoonlik voordat dit reen was hulle orals.

So 2 jaar gelede met 'n kompetisie by Moolmans gesien hoe hulle groot babers stamp met reismiere.

;)
