 Invitation to Rock and Surf Clubs and all anglers.

Ashton Rock and Surf Angling club will be hosting the fourth annual Struisbaai “5 Species” Rock and Surf competition on 27 February 2010 as part of the “Geelstertfees”.

This is a professionally organized, environmental friendly event, which you and/or your club/team will be proud of to be associated with. We therefore would like to invite you and/or your club or team to enter the 2010 Struisbaai 5 Spesie.

The 5 Species develops rock and surf sports angling amongst the youth in the Cape Town, Overberg and Breërivier areas as indicated on the attached brochure.

The weekend long Geelstertfees offers something for the whole family. Saturday the family has the opportunity to enter in the 5 Spesie rock and surf competitions for fun, family building and win some great prices. The kids under 13 and lady anglers can again enter at a special prize making it affordable for a family to enter. Also visit http://www.geelstertfees.co.za for the 2010 festival programme.

We also would like to challenge other clubs fishing for edibles to enter the team competition and test their skills against Ashton Angling club who has won the Team Cup and gold medals for the last four years.

In 2009 more than R35 000 worth of prizes was won. We intend to increase the value of the prizes and lucky draws in 2010 and are actively obtaining sponsorship to achieve this.


We will again have an angling tent with a bar facility for anglers to share stories and have fun.

We have managed to keep the entery fee very reasonable:

  • Individual and or part of a 6 person team - R130
  • Ladies - R50
  • Girls/Boys under 13 – R30
To enter please complete the form provided and make an internet payment before Sunday, 2010/02/21. Late entries will be accepted at the Geelstert show grounds in the Ashton Angling club tent on Friday, 2010/02/26 between 17H00 and 20H00.

Shortened Programme:
  1. Friday, 2010/02/26 – Entries and socializing in Angling tent. Bar open from 17H00 to 20H30.
  2. Saturday, 2010/02/27 – Angling from 05H00 to 16H00,
  3. Saturday, 2010/02/27 – Fish weigh-in at angling tent from 14H30 to 16H15. Bar and Food available from 14H00.
  4. Saturday, 2010/02/27 - The price giving will be at 18H00 at the Ashton Angling club tent.

You will definitely see me there again.

We had such a good time last year. Next year will the 4th year I will take part, and I will not miss it for anything.

Apart from the great initiative the 5 Spesie guys has taken up with the youth and development(http://www.5spesie.co.za/) it is also a great event. It is on the same weekend of the Geelstert fees in Struisbaai, those of you who does not know the Geelstert fees, you are missing a lot( http://www.geelstertfees.co.za)

 hi all.........
the 2009 event was an absolute blast. we were a group of 5 guys and everyone has recruited more guys to join us for the 2010 event. i was thinking...... could we not arrange a sealine team to partake in this event? any thoughts or suggestions????
