Saltist 50

Hi Guys,  I just got off the phone with Bilal from Cheapest fishing tackle, Im looking to buy a saltist 50, and after speaking to him, was rather shocked.  He says there are four problems with the ree,  the casting clip, the star gets locked, the drag and the paintwork boils in the sun,  he recommended a tourium 30,  guys with saltists, what are your opinions?

My saltist 50 is 9 months old and I haven't had problems with it when at sea. I self-serviced it twice and it works FINE. For your info, I'm a trinidad fan and I don't see myself terminating my relationship with it. But the daiwa baby is giving me good service also. I'll dump it the day it 'fails' me to beach a 309kg zambie.

The SALTIST is a great reel.... never had a days problem with mine, but then I've never caught a bus either... I also look after my reels by servicing after every trip.

saltist50 is a good reel got mine for 6 months now and dont have any problems with it.caught a few sharks and skates with it and it handles well

The Torium 30 and Saltist 50 by comparison look to be equally matched. Then compare prices.

Noweeds SA records was Achieved Torium 30, but then again he is an angler of note and would have probably achieved the same with any reel, but Him using the T30 surely speaks volumes about the reel.

Boet, the reason i use it is because i've spoken to all the guys who service these reels every day! If you want advice about what reel to get speak to them!!

Funny they all fish with toriums.....bullet proof and cheap to keep running!!

Ditto, I have got both a 40H and 50H never had any hassels with either, haven't casught anything work speaking about on either, but they will handle.

It all comes down to personal preference. I have 2 Shimano 6000 baitrunners, which are also brilliant reels and have caught plenty of decent fresh water fish, so it's all about what works for you.

I have a saltist 50 and a trinidad 30. I prefer the saltist as it throws further and I think handles big fish better. I have got my reel for two years now and have not had any problems with it. Both of these reels I have geared up for big fish.

I prefer it to the trinidad and feel that the drag is a bit stronger than the trinidad. I also feel that the Saltist is a smoother reel when throwing and when fighting fish. Thats my opinion and different people will give you different ideas. Try both reels out for yourself and decide which you prefer.

Torium/Saltist choice is a personal matter as I recon both about equal.

Saltist/Trini...Saltist has the edge any day. Trinin has too many bits and pieces inside that can all break, handle side plate is not solid metal, drag is inferior to Saltist.

Now the latest Trini's may be something else with electronics inside...LOL

Don't get me wrong, these reels are all very good and the differences are marginal.

mmmmmmmmm, think you got it the wrong way round china!!

Ask any guy who services reels for a living which he would choose and i put money on it it would be the Trini...............

Saltist clutch lever break, spools pop, frames crack.......never heard the same from a Trinidad!!!

And this in NOT biased as i use Toriums.......I believe they are JUST as good as a Trinidad at a 3rd of the price!

wesley rapson fishes for sharks on esa with a saltist 50, what he uses in league might be different. raymond de bruyn uses a saltiga 50.the point is that wesley is not outgunned when fishing with his saltist. weeds bear me out here, most of your big sharks were caught with a torium and 400/3. does thus affect your mindset when you are fishing against somebody who has a trinidad/blade/saltiga/ pentagon. the most important tackle that you fish with is yourself, or am i talking baff.

Boet. I don't care what the guy fishing next to me uses...i don't even look. I fish with tackle that I know works.
I also use a Pentagon now days....got a great deal and they are great rods.
Boet fishing is 60% skill, 30% mindset, and 10% luck.....the best angler will catch something with the worst tackle but you can give the best tackle to a bad angler and he will still catch nothing!!

Think about it!!

Howsit guys,  thanks for all your input,  it ended up being a very difficult choice,  i decided in the end to go for the saltist 50,  take good care of it and lets see what happens,  I hope not to expieriance the breakages etc, but if it happens, i guess expieriance is the best teacher.

I still don't think you can compare the Saltist with the Trinidad... (I own a Saltist). Surely it's Saltist vs Torium, and Saltiga vs Trinidad???

I've never felt under equipped with a Torium....no matter what reels the guys next to me have!! I mean lets face it i've got one or two good fish....would a Saltiga or a Trinidad have made landing them easier???

And as for the fish i've lost......was it because i was only using Torium???

I think not!!
