![]() can someone working for or with sea fisheries please tell me why the permit buying anglers cannot get a barcoded plastic card instead of a piece of paper that you can use to wipe your nose with after the first 6 months. The library even gives you a flippen card ,but the hundreds and thousands of anglers paying R70 every year cannot fund a card system that would make life easyer for the anglers and authorities -i am sure that this has been asked before but sh*t can someone do something about it.Just think if they can take your card swipe it trough a machine and up comes your face with details instead of trying to make out if the permit is still legal after the ink has been washed off or torn apart I need some support on this matter guys, veral die ouens wat vir hulle werk help ons asseblief !!! ![]() |

Even better than a card would be an aluminium tag, like the old bicycle licences, that we could cable tie to our tackle bags. The tags are more durable than a paper or plastic card. There could either be difficult colours depending on which option you went for (bait only, fishing only, bait and fishing, etc), which might be difficult, or there could be multiple different colour tags, each one representing a different option. I wouldn't mind having 2 or 3 tags on my bag, a blue one for fishing, a red one for bait....etc... Alternatively, the option to add your fishing licence to your Wild Card should be available, but that means that MCM have to have devices that can read the plastic cards. I think this is the main reason why we don't have cards already. Last edited on Thu Aug 27th, 2009 01:00 pm by Kosi Fisher |

I thought the card would work well because they need to put a face to the details, seeing that you get all sorts off new scanning machines with screens that can show your face, same as what the traffic department uses?I think |

does anyone else agree to this, think what they should do is give the fishing licence the same as a car disk u put on the windscreen so all u do is laminate the cut out disk intead of carry'ing a peice of paper with u this will have your name , bar code and date of issue and expiration and maybe a picture of the person aswell. maybe all members of sealine should start a petition and hand it into the department of nature conservation and they can forward it to the right people. |

Goeie idee Bel die Shake broers hulle sal die idee aan die regering verkoop sodat hulle die kontrak kan kry om die kaarte te druk. So wen ons en hulle. Behalwe dat ons dan dubbel vir die lisensie gaan betaal. Vetvis ![]() |

Hi guys It came to my attention that since april this year the city manager has appointed a team to assist the public according "to the act to information"They basically look at all requests and suggestions. There is a website that requires you to pay a fee of R35 and they will basically process your request. website: cityofcapetown.gov.za. Will look into this a little further an will let you know how it goes. BigT |

Here in the Netherlands, as UK, you must aquire a "VISPAS" card to be able to fish. You get a Shore Angling card, Boat Anglingcard, Freshwater card ect ect. The difference here is that you can only obtain the card from your regional club within the area you stay, whether or not you are a member. It allows for the Club to make a % profit and the rest goes to the National and Eviromental bodies. It think it would be a much quicker, easier method than the traditional government post office that does not know anything of the sport of fishing. |

This topic was raised previously and my sentiments was a card as expressed by Slymslak. A card is the way to go. Why walk around with a A4 sheet of paper in a waterproof holder that fades and after a while looks quite terrible. |

Slym , Makro is an ORGANIZED company, not a bunch of people sitting around waiting for tjaila time to come. They know the more MAKRO cards they issue , the more money they can make , so they can earn a salary. |

Just a side note. Many anglers also catch crayfish. Your crayfish catch details need to be written on the back of your fishing licence, in ink, as soon as you have caught your allotted crayfish quota. The card type licence would be AWESOME, but how would one go about recording your crayfish catch's? You'd still have to have some sort of official paper to fill out your catch returns on.......... Back to square one!! ARGH!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I've lost so many permits, its not even funny!! I rock and surf, boat fish, spearfish, crayfish and between all of these facets, its VERY easy to lose your permit or get it wet. No replacements given.......just got to buy a new one...... |

You are only allowed 4 crayfish per person, per day. You MUST fill the form out as SOON as you have landed you allotted 4. This is meant to stop guys from taking out 4 crays, then taking it home, coming back and taking another 4, which also goes home and then coming back for a 3rd or 4th or 5th time............. The inspectors are quite strict and i've seen quite a few guys fined for not having their forms filled out....... |

I have no prob with the new paper permit. All I do is store it in a water proof bank bag and leave it in my tackle box for any inspection. In days gone by you used to have go to a PB office to get a permit which was WAY farther than my local post office. I fear a card system would only increase the price of the permit and decrease the number of purchasing points. |

if the parks board comes around..you don't have to leave your rod and attend to them by showing them the licence....the card can be around our necks or bags and they can have a look at it...I did have an incident where I was getting bites parks board ask to see my licence....pissed of with that....![]() |

Hi I am not to clued up on the tech. but seeing that you have to have your paper licence and id with you. You can now start to apply for your barcoded ID cards not books but ID cards like your drivers licence. Cant you link your fishing permit Payment to that new Barcoded ID card. It will serve a dual purpose ID card and have your full pedigree and you payment status for your fishing permit on there. Like said before let the federalies earn their keep and walk around with mobile scanners. I vote for a once off card and to top up yearly. Cheers Malboer |

Ha ha ha Miles I can see your problem and i do agree with the catch record. But it is a joke. On the present system any one can have 3 or more permits from different post offices( use the excuse that my old one got wet and is messed up. No replacement) use one go back home use another drop their catch ect. Hoping that i dont run into the same inspector on the same day. I dont have the answer but a solid card is a step in the right direction. Cheers Malboer |

Reviving an old topic. In the USA you purchase a fishing permit and receive a permit number as well as the paper permit. All one needs is the number and a valid ID, and the law enforcement officer checks by phoning/or browsing on internet to verify you have a valid permit. No cards/papers required, only your verifyable ID. |

Ja no..but that requires working government systems and a centrally maintained database which would just by itself solve the issue that the card here is proposed to which is preventing one from having to buy another when one looses their only copy. Fisheries management in SA is a joke and a new fishing license is the least of their concerns, unless they can make some more easy money out of it. I've only had my license checked once in all my years of fishing (30+) and the first start is policing fisheries. The second is to have limits worth enforcing and commercial stock allocations need to be sorted out as the status quo (except in one or two fisheries regarding stock) is stuff the stock, grab as much as one can and stuff the recreationals. We need far more major and deeply rooted changes than a new license card or fishing number, but thanks for your comment, you are 100% correct, a simple system would solve the issue This is SA though and simple systems go over most peoples heads including those in gov'. |

Fantastic idea, but unfortunately in our country if this system were to be rolled out it would go to a tender process and be allocated to one of the ministers mates lining his / her pocket. This simple system would then cost hundreds of millions to implement and our annual fishing permit costs would increase 10 fold. Nothing is simple in this country, unfortunately |
