Hi All Early July i am dropping my wife and 2 children off at Ai Ais to the the Fish River Canyon Hike. I have 4 days free before pick up so was thinking of going through to oranjemund, stay there and fish the coatline. Been searching info on fishing around Oranjemund but dontseem to find much info. Is there anyone that stays in oranjemund that can direct me to safe accommodation and also is there any good fishing nearby. Thanks All

Hi Cobsy, I've only fished Alexander Bay side of the mouth but the same should apply to Oranjemund. There are young fish in the lagoon, steenbras and kob. When the river is running fairly strong you can catch steenbras and kob from shore (this is however mostly in summer when there is rain inland), white mussel or pilchard bait. I have no idea what access is like on Oranjemund side or if you can get bait there. Also. not sure if you need a 4x4 to get to the mouth where you would want to fish but on Alexander Bay side it's a must. What I can say is that when the fish does bite you can catch them cast for cast and probably the most southern spot where you get West Coast steenbras in good numbers.
