I have narrowed my search down to the Pelin 14.6 and then the Bandit 490.

Considering the boat will be used mostly in Velddift River and then on the odd occasion out for a few snoek.

handling etc, what's recommended?

If you are ever going to take it into the ocean, then definitely not the Bandit.

I have a small Bandit and they are wonderful boats, but definitely an estuary or dam boat. The cathedral hull is just not built for any sort of offshore conditions. Even when the wind comes up on my local dam, and I'm motoring into the wind, the hull slams very hard.

The Pelin will however not be nearly as comfortable at rest on the estuary... The Bandit is super stable at rest.

I am also interested in this size craft, in my case predominately for deep sea and occasional river use (Surf launch) I have had a good look at the Bandit 490 and agree with above sentiment

Very valuable info, neither will work then. Pointless having a nice boat for river and cant take it to sea. Also don't want something rolling all over the place whilst in the river, perhaps a seacat then?

Sorry BigD... Didn't meant to put you off the Pelin... They're wonderful little boats. Not as stable as a cathedral or cat, but on the plus side, super easy to handle without having to have a crew.

I strongly suggest talking to the guys who build the Pelin (boating shed if I remember correctly) and asking them for a demo... Get on the water and see for yourself what they are like at rest on flat water. They have an excellent pedigree.

Seacat is great, but it's a big step up in size and lack of ease of handling, towing, maneuvering etc. The Bandit 490 is significantly less boat than the offshore cats... Only comparable cat that I could think of would be something like a Witsblitz... But I don't have any experience with them so unable to advise there.

I'd rather go with a small mono than a small cat... IMHO.

What did you end up choosing? I’m trying to choose between the same two boats, my use mostly estuaries but the occasional sea outing.
