Hi Guys

I searched the forum to no avail, My Buoyancy certificate has expired, and I need to re do it, but I live in the sticks and the closest major city is nelspruit. Anyone know who can help me out in the area?

Also... I suspect that the port side foam may be waterlogged, as the boat lists slightly to the port. Do I have to pull the whole deck off to re do the floatation?

Thanks

Jamo

For rebuilding a deck. Try conway marine. I see their shop closed but think they opperate from home. Google conway marine nelspruit. Maybe there is a contact no. Or working e mail. Just a suggestion.

Best option is to have your boat weighed at a weighbridge and see if there is acctually waterlogging of the foam. Compare with expired bouyancy certificate. Then depending on what type of foam you had.and your boats weight have not increased a new boyancy will be issued by the samsa inspector.Without pulling out the deck. But its always good to know whats underneath the deck.

Try and get hold of Nelspruit ski boat fishing club I was once a paid up member, but it appears to be a "boetie boetie" system...

Sadly, in your case you might have to pull the deck as in the whole - but you will be able to use the whole deck again, providing it's in good shape, meaning - you need to cut the deck out, as in opening a tin of sardines, then with enough manpower you lift the whole deck out / off the boat - ofcourse all wires / fittings disconnected. From there you will be able to determine which part is waterlogged etc. What type of boat you have and did you do surflaunching with it? Reason for asking depending on your type of boat, age of hull, type / quality of fibreglass + job on hull, it could very well have "hairline cracks" due to surflaunching + beaching. It might be worthwhile to have a look at your keelstrip too, or keelstrips (Cat), sometimes overtime or due to beaching this keelstrips can be the cause of water entering, for example the screws attaching the keelstrip, important to ensure these are well sealed etc.
