Awa Ion power Bay line

Found this line at local tackle shop and it got my attention. Awa Ion power bay.
The line diameters to rated fish weight was really good.

The price is outstanding. So, I'm intetested to try the .50 for a shore game line for yellowtail. Is this quality line and will it stand up?

If anyone has used this can you give your thoughts.

Many thanks!

A year or so ago i came across the ION Power big game line and saw the breaking strain vs the diamater was incredible, so i bought 2000m of the 59Kg which is 0.90 or 0.80 which is the same as 37kg line that i usually spool onto my Tiagra 50w's for tuna. I used the line last season and found it to be very nice, abrasive resistant and must have caught around 10 big yellowfin on one of the reels without any issues. So a few weeks ago i was in another tackle shop and they had a few spools and was about to buy when someone in the shop told me that the line isn't all that its cracked up to be. They had a digital breaking strain tester in the shop and we did 3 break tests on the line and every time it broke at 32kg which is a far cry from the 59kg on the spool!! I thought maybe it was just that spool or a certain batch but i was told that this is the case with this brand line

I also bought a thinner spool of 30 odd kg that i was using as a hand-line off the boat and on one day i got popped off 4 times by big kob and i couldn't figure out why it kept on failing and after this test on the thicker line i realised that line was also far below the advertised breaking strain!

Don,

AWAS mono lines typically have 2 measurements on the spool/packaging (other than the dia)

1. Fish kg rating
2. ISO N rating

The ISO N rating is a tensile strength rating ie what we are used to.
Ignore the Fish kg rating its a weird rating system used in parts of Continental Europe

As an example I have a spool of C+ Hypercasting in front of me.
Dia is 0.35mm
Its ISO N rating is 82.4N which is 8.24kg roughly (just divide by 10)

If you want to be a nerd, scientifically 1N=0.101971621297793kg so it has an actual BS of 8.4kg
The Fish rating is 17.5kg, the weird system says I can catch a 17.5kg fish with the line. OK if you say so....

For my use its breaking strain is 8.2kg / 18lb
That's very good for a 0.35mm mono - Maxima of the same dia has a rating of 6.5kg / 14.3lb

Thanks for the explanation, i however find that quite devious/ false advertising then where i dont see these figures on other line brands? I am actually sorry that i ever bought their lines and they wont see my money in the future! Their line actually broke at a lower breaking strain than other line with the same diam

Hmmm, think Ill give it a miss. Heard today as well from guys who used it that it broke well under and also tends to burn off quicker, very dry line.

very very hard line.
I had some on a smaller grinder and found even with a knot it would damage easily.
